Why are Austinites so hostile to people in need?

Why are Austinites so hostile to people in need?

I was stuck in traffic on Menchaca yesterday and saw a car broken down in the only available lane. Everyone was passing the guy and no one helped, which I thought was crazy. Eventually, I pulled over and offered to move the car, but it turned out the emergency brake was disengaging when there was power. We had to jump the car in the middle of the road before we could move it. I was shocked at the hostility and lack of compassion from the other drivers.

That behavior is really frustrating. It's essential to know what to do when your car breaks down on a busy street for everyone's safety. Move your vehicle to a safe location, such as the shoulder, a side street, or over the curb, as far away from traffic as possible. Engage your hazard lights and raise your hood or trunk. Stand at a safe distance from the traffic. Only enter the driver's side door if necessary to move the vehicle further off the road. Call for roadside assistance, like AAA or 311. Remember, it's crucial to stay safe and avoid standing behind or in front of a stalled vehicle.

After a while, I decided to call the police to help control traffic. It was a precautionary measure to ensure everyone's safety.

In the 1970s, police officers were more involved in their communities. They carried jumper cables and used the push-bars on their cars regularly. Officers would also get out of their vehicles to direct traffic during power outages or traffic jams, helping to ensure people got to work on time.
