I'm looking for a traditional Mexican sweet bread to make a nice treat for a friend visiting from Mexico. They love pan de muerto and I want to get it for them.

If you're looking for good Mexican bakeries, consider checking out those in Brighton Park or the Back of the Yards area. They typically start selling their products around October.

It's likely too early in the season for bakeries to be selling Pan de muerto, as this sweet bread is traditionally associated with the Dias De Los Muertos celebration, which takes place closer to Halloween and into the first days of November.

Au Levain is a bakery worth checking out if you live in the northern part of the city.

Pan Artesenal is a great place to keep an eye on, as they typically start taking pre-orders around this time of year.
