Meet The Maldivas: An All-Women Improv Troupe Bringing Laughter to Chicago
Chicago’s improv scene just got a bit more diverse and empowering with the arrival of The Maldivas, an all-women improv troupe that aims to make a splash on the local comedy circuit.

The Maldivas, hailing from Brazil, have been in Chicago since 2017, initially for a three-month stint. Now, they’re making a permanent home for themselves in the city, performing at various venues and events, including the famous Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.
What sets The Maldivas apart is their commitment to inclusivity and empowering women through the art of improv. They offer workshops and classes for aspiring comedians and have even launched a podcast, “The Maldivas Podcast,” where they share their experiences and insights with the wider community.
This isn’t just about adding another troupe to the Chicago scene; it’s about fostering a more diverse and dynamic comedy community. For expats and digital nomads like myself, it’s a welcome addition to the city’s cultural offerings.
