Daley's, Chicago's oldest restaurant, has been feeding the South Side since 1892. It's where Muhammad Ali used to eat, and I suspect the pancakes are better than anything near City Hall. They've been around for 134 years, and have even managed to get a bank loan during the height of the Great Depression - pretty amazing considering half of all banks failed in 1933.

Portillo's is a real Chicago institution that's worth visiting for its affordable and delicious Chicago-style hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches. It's a casual eatery with multiple locations throughout the city, but the original Portillo's is located in the River North neighborhood.

I've run the Hot Chocolate 5K and 8K in Chicago for the past 5 years, but this year the experience during the actual run felt much worse than before. The packet pickup was smooth, but once I started running, I noticed that the water tables were mostly empty, and there were only 3-4 water stations on the course with no electrolytes. I was lucky that the weather was fine, but I'd expect electrolytes on a run at this price. The first water station was understaffed, and runners had to detour to grab chocolate chips themselves. I also didn't see mile markers until around mile 5.
