The Plaza 28 de Julio in Playa del Carmen welcomed thousands of people for the opening of the Janal Pixán 2026. The inauguration featured a grand altar lit under the balcony of the Municipal Palace, including offerings from various states and a towering catrina sculpture. Throughout the event, various dances and music performances were showcased, culminating in a contest for alebrijes. The cultural and artistic program will continue on Sunday with a procession of altars.
