‘Mortarium’ Brings Domestic Violence to the Stage in Cancún
Hey fellow expats and digital nomads in Cancún! Have you heard about the upcoming play Mortarium at the Festival Siniestra? It’s a thought-provoking exploration of domestic violence that might hit a bit too close to home for some of us.

This Saturday, October 3rd, Mortarium will premiere at the Centro Cultural Xbalamqué. The play combines poetry and performance to delve into the terror, captivity, and survival of those in abusive relationships. While it might be a heavy topic, it’s important to shine a light on these issues, especially in a place like Cancún where many of us have built our dream lives.
Perla Chávez, Sofía Vera, and César Sierra are the creative minds behind this production. The play will run from 8:00 PM and is open to those 18 and over. There’s a cover fee, so be prepared to pay for the experience. It’s a chance to engage with a piece of theater that’s both captivating and challenging.
This event means that we can’t ignore the realities of domestic violence in our community. If you or someone you know is in an abusive situation, there are resources available. The National Hotline is a good place to start, and local organizations can offer support.
