Winter Is Coming: Calgary Prepares for a Major Snowfall
Calgarians, get your shovels ready! A significant snowstorm is rolling in, bringing up to 25 cm of snow to parts of Alberta. While this might seem sudden, it’s not entirely unexpected given our current weather patterns.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), northeastern Alberta will see the heaviest snowfall, with 15 to 20 cm of snow expected in places like Wood Buffalo National Park and Fort Chipewyan. Calgary isn’t left out either, with a chance of snow on Friday, October 23, and flurries on Sunday, October 25. The average snowfall for this time of year is 2 cm, so this is definitely a noteworthy event.
Temperatures are expected to drop, with Calgary seeing a high of 6°C on Friday and a low of -3°C on Saturday night. Edmonton, on the other hand, will experience a high of 6°C on Friday and a low of -2°C on Saturday. While El Niño might be expected to mellow out the winter, this storm shows that winter is indeed coming, and residents should prepare accordingly.
