Urgent Travel Advisory: Storms Threaten U.S. and Mexico
Living in Toronto, I’m always keeping an eye on travel advisories for my home country and beyond. Recently, the Government of Canada issued urgent travel advisories for the United States and Mexico due to severe weather conditions. These storms could significantly impact your travel plans, so it’s crucial to stay informed.

Mexico: As Tropical Storm Simon approaches the southwestern coast, the potential for heavy rain and strong winds is high. The U.S. National Hurricane Center predicts maximum sustained winds of around 100 km/h, with the possibility of a dangerous category four hurricane. This means essential services like transportation, power, and medical care could be disrupted. If you’re already in the area, follow local authorities’ instructions and stay updated on the latest news.
U.S.: Hurricane Isaias is making its way towards the Gulf Coast, with sustained winds of up to 140 km/h. Flash and urban flooding are expected, particularly in southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. The advisory warns to avoid non-essential travel to the northern Gulf coast from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to the Bay/Gulf county line in Florida.
