How a Calgary Entrepreneur Revitalized MRU’s Vintage Market
Back2School Vintage, a beloved MRU tradition, wouldn't exist without the efforts of Ray Ejike, a Calgary-based entrepreneur. Since launching the market last year, Ejike has brought a unique blend of vintage fashion directly to students, making second-hand shopping both affordable and trendy.

Ray Ejike, who runs his own vintage fashion business, noticed a gap in the market. 'When you look at the demographic of the people who shop vintage, second-hand stuff, the whole drive is actually coming from the younger Gen Z,' he explains. 'That kept bugging me why we are not bringing this to the people who are actually pushing this buzz.' His solution? Create a market that caters directly to students, ensuring they can shop vintage without leaving campus.
The next market is scheduled for early February 2027, with vendors selling everything from thrifted shirts to premium denim and refurbished watches. 'Can't wait for the next one,' one student commented on Instagram, highlighting the market's popularity.
For expats and digital nomads looking to get involved or just curious about the market, here’s what you need to know. First, the market is a great way to discover unique, affordable clothing options. Second, it’s an excellent opportunity to support local entrepreneurs and businesses. Finally, keep an eye on the calendar for the next event, as it’s sure to be a hit among students and fashion enthusiasts alike.
