Discover Calgary’s Rich Military History with New Veterans Walkway
Fellow expats and digital nomads, get ready to step into Calgary’s past with the exciting new Veterans Walkway. This interactive five-kilometer pathway, officially opening on October 17, 2026, is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

The walkway features 31 bronze medallions embedded in the pavement, each connected to a free app that shares stories as you walk. Carolyn Patton, chair of the Veterans Walkway Committee, explains, “With each medallion, there’s a military and veteran story that connects to the next, so as you walk, you’ll discover stories from one medallion to another.”
This project, funded by the City of Calgary, the Royal Canadian Legion, and other local organizations, showcases the collaborative spirit of Calgary. Patton says, “Creating the walkway was a team effort, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the funding and collaboration of historians, veterans, and families.”
As you stroll along Memorial Drive, you’ll uncover tales of those who served and those who stayed behind. Each medallion tells a unique story, from the First World War to more recent conflicts, bringing Calgary’s rich military history to life. This is more than just a walk; it’s a journey into the past.
