Detached Home Prices Plummet in Key Calgary Suburbs: What It Means for Expats and Digital Nomads
Walking down a quiet street in Chestermere, surrounded by the peaceful neighborhoods of Calgary, I couldn't help but notice the recent changes in property values. According to the Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB) report for October 2026, detached home prices are falling sharply in several key suburbs, with Chestermere experiencing the biggest decline, followed closely by Airdrie.

Detached home prices in Chestermere dropped by 5.9% year-over-year, bringing the benchmark price to $742,600. This significant decline is echoed in Airdrie, where prices fell by 4.9% to $587,300. The report also highlights Okotoks and High River, which saw a 4.2% drop in detached home prices, with Okotoks’ benchmark price at $673,100 and High River’s at $553,300, the second lowest in the region.
While these figures might be of interest to potential buyers, they also have practical implications for expats and digital nomads living in these areas. As prices drop, it might become a more affordable time to buy or sell, but it's important to keep an eye on the market and consult with a local real estate agent to understand the current trends and what they might mean for your financial situation.
