Cochrane, Alberta: A Top Destination for Gen Z This Fall
Cochrane, Alberta, has been named a top destination for Gen Z travelers this fall, according to data from Airbnb. As a remote worker based in Calgary, I find this particularly interesting, given the trend towards shorter, more frequent getaways among young professionals.

The town's appeal lies in its proximity to the Bow Valley, offering panoramic views from Cochrane Hill, trails through Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park, and a long-standing local institution, MacKay’s Ice Cream. These amenities align well with the preferences of Gen Z, who seem to be prioritizing scenic experiences and small-town charm.
The data, which shows a 40% increase in domestic fall searches among Gen Z travelers, highlights the changing trends in travel preferences. For expats and digital nomads like myself, it suggests that Cochrane could be a great destination for a weekend getaway or a longer stay. The town’s population growth from a few hundred in the 1970s to over 37,000 as of the 2024 municipal census, also indicates its growing appeal.
