Calgary’s Scenic Bow Valley Parkway Named World’s Most Beautiful Cycling Route
It's official: the Bow Valley Parkway, a scenic route in Banff National Park, has been crowned the most beautiful cycling route in the world. This accolade comes from Explore, an adventure travel company, who used eye-tracking technology to measure the visual appeal of 52 cycling routes globally, with the Bow Valley Parkway scoring a remarkable 97 out of 100.

For those of us in Calgary, this news is both a source of pride and a valuable addition to our already extensive list of outdoor adventures. The Bow Valley Parkway stretches 51 kilometers between Banff and Lake Louise, offering breathtaking views of mountains and wildlife. However, it's worth noting that the route is traffic-restricted during certain times of the day, making it particularly inviting for early morning or evening rides.
While the route is undoubtedly stunning, it’s important to consider the practicalities for visitors and residents. As a remote worker in Calgary for over seven years, I often take advantage of the city’s natural beauty. The Bow Valley Parkway is a gem that deserves its title, but it’s also a reminder to plan your rides accordingly, especially if you’re not familiar with the area’s traffic patterns.
