Calgary’s Balkan Mediterranean Restaurant Named Global Winner
Just received some good news for those of us who have been frequenting the Balkan Mediterranean Restaurant in Banff for years! This beloved eatery has been named one of the world’s best casual dining restaurants by TripAdvisor, a recognition that speaks to its enduring appeal and the quality of its Mediterranean and Greek cuisine.

Located on Banff Avenue since 1984, the restaurant is known for its extensive mezze, souvlaki, saganaki, and baklava offerings, as well as its lively atmosphere with belly dancers and plate smashing. This recognition is well-deserved, and it’s a proud moment for the establishment and its dedicated staff.
With the restaurant ranking fourth in TripAdvisor’s list of the world’s best vegan and vegetarian restaurants and 14th in its list of the world’s best casual dining spots, it’s clear that the Balkan Mediterranean Restaurant is setting a high standard for its competitors.
As a retiree and a regular at this place, I must say that seeing this recognition feels like a validation of the experience I’ve enjoyed for decades. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a first-time visitor, this spot is a must-try for anyone looking for a taste of the Mediterranean in the heart of Banff.
