Calgary Catholic Students Experience the Trades: A Hands-On Field Trip
__BEGINNING__

Hundreds of Calgary Catholic students participated in a hands-on field trip to experience life in the trades. Organized by the Calgary Construction Association and the Alberta Roofing Contractors Association, the initiative aimed to introduce middle school students to potential career paths. The day began with students visiting tabletop stations highlighting nine different trades, including carpentry, electrical work, and more. Students like Kashvi and Jeoffry expressed excitement about the possibilities and were inspired to consider careers in construction and building.
THE MEANING
This hands-on field trip is part of a broader initiative to engage students in the trades. The CCSD, which included this event in the second of its kind, hopes to make potential careers more accessible and appealing to adolescents. The event provided students with a glimpse into the trades, allowing them to see the tools, parts, and techniques used, and inspiring them to consider a future in construction and building.
