Alberta's Fuel Tax Relief Extended Until 2027: What It Means for Residents
Alberta’s fuel tax relief program, which has been on hold until the end of 2026, will now extend until 2027. The suspension, announced by the Province, aims to help Albertans with the rising costs of daily essentials amid global uncertainties. With the fuel tax rate adjusted quarterly based on oil prices, the Province will review the tax rate again in early 2027.

The suspension of the provincial fuel tax from October 31, 2026, to December 31, 2026, has already provided significant savings for Albertans. The province will continue to monitor pump prices to ensure that these savings are passed on to residents and will take action against businesses that engage in price gouging at the pumps.
This extension will affect those living in Calgary and other parts of Alberta, providing more time for the Province to make further adjustments to the fuel tax rate based on global economic conditions. As the Province watches global markets, they will take action to ensure that Albertans continue to benefit from the current rates until the next review period.
