I'm planning a trip to Nusa Penida and want to visit some of the famous beaches, like Kelingking Beach and Diamond Beach. I know they look beautiful in photos, but I want to know the realistic downsides before I go.

Diamond Beach is accessible even for those who aren't in top physical shape, as long as you take it slowly. The descent is relatively easy, but the ascent can be tiring due to the heat. For the first two-thirds of the descent, there's a well-defined path, but the last third can be more challenging. Once you reach the beach, swimming isn't really an option. I've seen videos of Kelingking that make me realize it's not worth attempting.

Kelingking is the more intimidating option. The terrain is steep, and there are some sketchy sections with loose rock and rope. Climbing back up in the heat can be brutal, so it's best to go early in the morning and bring plenty of water. Diamond Beach, on the other hand, is much easier to access, with mostly stairs. Unless you're in great physical shape, it's probably best to stick with Diamond Beach.

Kelingking is a potentially hazardous location. There was a recent incident where someone lost their life there, and I believe average fitness levels might not be sufficient to navigate the steep and slippery sections safely. Additionally, it's not a good idea to enter the water if the waves are large, as the current can be extremely strong and deadly.
