Bali Arak Shines at US Charity Auction: What It Means for Expats and Digital Nomads
DENPASAR, Bali, Four bottles of Bali arak recently fetched a combined US$400 at a charity auction in Las Vegas, highlighting the potential of local Balinese products on the international stage. This event, organized as part of the Charity F@!& Cancer Flair for a Cause, saw Balinese bartenders Gede Rico Hardiana Widnyana and I Wayan Eka Darmawan showcase the traditional spirit to a global audience.

Rico, a hospitality student at Triatma Mulya University and a competitive flair bartender, shared, “We want to show that local Balinese products have the potential to gain attention on the international stage.” The proceeds from the auction went to support cancer survivors, adding a meaningful dimension to the event.
Arak, a traditional Balinese spirit, has long been an integral part of social and ceremonial life. Its production and distribution are regulated under provincial rules, and it was recognized as an intangible cultural heritage in 2022. For expats and digital nomads living in Bali, this event underscores the unique cultural experiences available beyond the usual tourist hotspots.
