Phipps Plaza's old Father Christmas character, where can I find photos?

I remember a few years ago visiting Phipps Plaza during the holidays and seeing a unique Father Christmas character. He had a long blackish robe with ornamentation, a huge wood walking stick, and a long white beard. He looked more like an old wizard than the traditional Santa Claus. Does anyone remember this character and have any photos of him?

I think you might be remembering James Ray Bryan, who was the Phipps Santa until his passing in 2006. He was indeed more old-school, but I don't recall him being especially wizardly... I found his obituary online, and an interview with his successor.

He was incredibly patient, always willing to listen and accommodate the children's wishes.

I have fond memories of visiting Phipps during the late 80s and early 90s, where I would see the father Christmas character. The information desk staff would tell visitors that he was a traditional representation of the character, and many families would reserve a spot months in advance to take pictures with their kids. I particularly remember the unique outfit he wore, which was a longer, darker-colored robe with intricate decorations.

My children's early holiday photos feature the successor to the original Santa, which I'm grateful for.
