What are the Day of the Dead celebrations like in Playa del Carmen?
I'll be in Playa Del Carmen the first few days of November and was curious if and how I could respectfully partake in whatever non-family-only celebrations there are.

As a visitor, it's essential to be respectful of the cemetery and its occupants. Unless there's a specific cultural activity taking place, it's generally considered a private matter between families. This is especially true when families are preparing for the holiday, which is a common occurrence.

Playa del Carmen offers several options to experience the Day of the Dead, including the beautiful Xcaret. The cemetery is particularly interesting due to the unique way death is viewed and celebrated in Mexico. Some graves are decorated with items that represent the person who passed away, such as their profession, nickname, or favorite things, making it a special and unique sight to see.
