I'm not sure what to do if someone calls me after I left a note on their car with my phone number and name.

If the scratch wasn't too bad, you could try to compensate the other person instead of going through insurance. This might be a good option if the damage is minor and you're confident that the other person won't pursue it further.

If you're trying to avoid going through insurance, you could contact some auto body shops in North York, like Revive Auto Collision Inc, to get quotes. Photos of the damage should be enough to get a decent quote. You could also try negotiating with the other person to have their vehicle fixed at your preferred shop and offer to provide a rental for a couple of days.

When dealing with a minor accident, you might wonder if you can ask the other person to go to the auto body shop you prefer, which has a mechanic who charges cheaply. However, it's generally up to the other person to decide where to go for repairs.

I once scratched a car in a parking lot while taking a continuing education class for my profession. I left a note and never heard from the person. Six months later, I met up with a psychotherapist who was driving the same car. She told me she had tried to contact me, but I ended up paying her a substantial amount more than the cost of repair.

I got into a minor accident when I struck a car on black ice in a parking lot. The damage was minor, around $500-$800. I left a note and offered to pay for the repairs, but the other person went through insurance instead. Unfortunately, this led to an at-fault claim on my record, which increased my premiums by more than the cost of the repairs.

If the other person decides to go through insurance, they'll likely call you to ask for your insurance information over the phone. You'll then need to provide the necessary details, and the insurance company will handle the rest of the process.
