Toronto’s Artistic Exchange: Reissa Lee Trades Paintings for Food
A 25-year-old Toronto artist, Reissa Lee, is making waves by trading her original artwork for meals at local restaurants. This unique project, which she calls 'come get rejected with me?,' showcases her determination and creativity.

Lee's journey began when she faced rejection trying to get her work hung in neighborhood spots. Instead of giving up, she decided to swap her visual art with the culinary skills of local businesses. A video of her pitch at Lambo’s Deli near Trinity Bellwoods went viral, with the co-owner immediately accepting her offer in exchange for two Italian Trio sandwiches. The piece now hangs proudly within the shop.
Her work spans various mediums, from watercolors to quick plein air gouache paintings of local spots. Recently, she shared a watercolor dedicated to Susie’s, meant to capture the feeling of being looked after by your grandmother. Lee's art also features a delightful 8×10 illustration called 'Deli Beli World,' which now adorns Lambo’s Deli.
For now, Lee is sticking to her usual bike and walking routes along Dundas West, pitching a new small business every week. She plans to branch out into other Toronto neighborhoods as the project grows. If you're out for a walk and spot someone carrying a freshly framed painting, it might just be Reissa Lee pitching her artwork for a meal.
