New Road Improvements in Tamarindo and Beyond
Well, folks, it looks like the folks in Guanacaste are really getting down to business. The Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) and the Consejo Nacional de Vialidad (CONAVI) are rolling up their sleeves and making some serious headway on the roads in and around Tamarindo. It's no secret that the roads can be a bit of a challenge, especially during the rainy season, and it's good to see some much-needed maintenance happening.
According to Pablo Camacho Salazar, the Viceminister of Infrastructure, the work includes resurfacing, bacheo (filling in potholes), and general maintenance on a number of routes. Some of the projects that have already started include:
- Work on the 158 national road between Hojancha and Lajas, including a 600-meter asphalt coating and 14 kilometers of bacheo.
- Starting work on the 902 national road between Hojancha and Nandayure, a 16-kilometer stretch.
- Beginning work on the 163 national road between Juan de León and San Francisco de Coyote in the Nicoya Peninsula.
- And much more, including work on the 623, 162, and other routes.
These improvements should make a big difference for everyone, especially those of us who spend most of our time outdoors in Tamarindo. The dry season is just around the corner, so we can expect these projects to continue and even accelerate as we move into 2027.
