I've been thinking about the meaning of supporting local businesses in Cambodia. While we often focus on whether a company is owned by a Cambodian or not, I think there's another important aspect to consider: the strength of the Cambodian workforce.

The quality-to-price ratio is key. Choosing a product just because it's Cambodian or local without considering this indicator is counterproductive. It's like a parent saying their child is the best without encouraging them to work hard to truly be the best. In the real world, if you're not genuinely good, you'll eventually disappear. It's Darwin's law. It's cruel, but it's life.

You're not supposed to support just anyone. You're not the government, and you're not the finance minister. They're the ones who should make it work, not you.

As a foreign visitor, I try to support local Cambodian businesses by purchasing their products. I see these items as souvenirs, and I enjoy collecting them. When consumers buy and producers sell, it suggests that the economy is thriving, even if I don't fully grasp the intricacies of Cambodian macroeconomics.

I got very disappointed. The 'Buy Cambodian, made in Cambodia' slogans have been taken over by scammers. Every time you see a 'made in Cambodia' label in a supermarket, it's always some overpriced lower-quality product. They're just pride-baiting people. I think the solution should be for the government to mandate that anyone using the 'Cambodian made' label must pass a quality control check. If you can't pass the check, you can't use the label. It should be a protected brand.
