Volcano Drill in Guía de Isora Focuses on Preventive Measures
A volcanic exercise in Guía de Isora, focusing on preventative measures such as simulated seismic activity, landslides, and road closures, will take place on 22 October. The exercise, organized by the Cabildo, will involve over 40 agencies and around 400 participants and will focus on evacuation of the Chirche and Aripe areas within the highly volcanic risk zone of Las Cumbres de Abeque. Key infrastructures at risk, particularly in the Teide National Park and nearby forest areas, will also be simulated during the drill.

Blanca Pérez, the island's councillor for Natural Resources, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies, stated that the exercises will range from the preventive evacuation of vulnerable people to a complete evacuation of two municipal areas, ensuring coordination with TITSA, the Canary Health Service, and the Red Cross. Additionally, information dissemination exercises and drone deployments will be part of the drill, and water supply, electricity, and emergency services will be simulated in table exercises.
Director of Security and Emergencies, Iván Martín, noted that the exercise would help identify areas for improvement, highlighting the need to ensure closure of 2,000 kilometres of tracks in the Teide National Park and nearby forest areas during an emergency.
