NYC Extends Late-Night Soccer Until 2027, Bringing the Game to Night Owls
Living in New York can sometimes feel like a never-ending trade-off between convenience and hassle. But for soccer enthusiasts, the city is about to get a little more forgiving. Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced that late-night pick-up soccer at five borough parks will continue through 2027, ensuring that night owls and early birds alike can play the game as they please.

During the summer of 2026, the city tested the NYC Open Play pilot, keeping the lights on all night at five soccer fields in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island. The mayor's office reported that over 4,500 participants made the most of these extended hours, booking 696 fields across the five boroughs. These fields will now stay open from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on weekdays, offering a place for players to gather and compete well into the night.
“Long after the sun had set, our late-night soccer fields came alive with energy and enthusiasm as nurses, students, and delivery workers passed, saved and scored,” Mayor Mamdani said. “This summer, we proved that the people’s game will always belong to the people.”
The program, which will run through October and November of 2026, and then return from April through September 2027, is being facilitated by NYC Footy and monitored by NYC Parks Enforcement Patrol (PEP) officers. The participation is limited to adults 18 and older, who can sign up as individuals or reserve fields for teams here.
