The Big O’s Roof Renewal: When Will Montreal’s Iconic Stadium Reopen?
Montreal's beloved Olympic Stadium, known affectionately as the 'Big O' or the 'Big Owe' due to its cost overruns, is finally getting a much-needed facelift. While the new roof is on track to be installed this fall, full reopening could be delayed until 2029 or even 2030.

The Roof is Almost Ready
The original retractable roof didn't work well, leading to a fixed roof that struggled with leaks and snow. The new roof is scheduled to be in place by November or December 2026, and the overall project should be finished by spring 2028. The interior renovations, which aim to bring the stadium up to world-class standards, are expected to be completed by 2027 but may push the reopening to 2029 or 2030.
What It Will Look Like
The stadium will be reconfigured for soccer and football, with seating arrangements to accommodate various event types. While baseball could potentially host one-off events, the stadium won't be fully capable of supporting a full baseball season. The Olympic Park is already drawing interest from professional sports teams and major promoters, with discussions ongoing with CF Montréal and interest expressed from the Alouettes and NHL.
