I'm a physiotherapist who works with newcomers in LA, and I'm curious about the local culture. I've noticed that high school football seems to be a big deal, especially with the top teams in the area. I'm wondering if it's a popular spectator sport among locals, and if it's a big part of the community like it is in Texas or the Deep South.

In my city, I only go to football games for the halftime show. Otherwise, I usually leave.

In neighborhoods like Franklin, Eagle Rock, and Lincoln, football games are quite popular. Further east, Garfield and Roosevelt have a long-standing rivalry that draws a large crowd. While I'm not familiar with West Side teams, University High has historically been a strong program.

It's intriguing to consider whether high school football is more popular than other sports, even the major ones. Additionally, do community members commonly follow the teams, similar to the way people do in a small town like in Texas?

Not really. In my suburban high school, there was one elderly woman who attended every game, but she was somewhat eccentric.

I attended high school in the Fairfax area, where schools like Fairfax, Hollywood, and Marshall were known for their strong football programs. It wasn't until after graduation that I realized how deeply football was ingrained in the local culture.

Los Angeles is quite different from Texas. In the suburban areas, high school football is a notable aspect of local culture, but it's not as deeply ingrained as it is in some other parts of the country.
