Isla Mujeres Reinforces Security for Back to School
Hey fellow expats and digital nomads, this is Miguel here! I've been a fisherman and local guide on Isla Mujeres for as long as I can remember. I'm thrilled to share some updates on what's happening in our island paradise, especially for those of you with kids heading back to school.
The Ayuntamiento de Isla Mujeres is stepping up its game to ensure a safe and secure environment for the students and their families. According to Atenea Gómez Ricalde, the mayor, a total of 6,745 students will be returning to the classroom this year. Here's what they're doing to make it happen:
- Enhanced Cleaning and Maintenance: The municipal teams are cleaning, painting, and conducting fumigation and dechaining in the schools and their surroundings. They're also making sure the pedestrian crossings look their best.
- Escuadrón Vial Escolar: The school patrol teams are reinforcing their presence during school entry and exit times. This helps keep the roads clear and safe for everyone.
- 4,000 Free School Bags: To support families, the city is providing over 4,000 free school bags through the 'Mi Mochila 2026' program. This is a great way to help students start the school year on the right foot.
As a local, I know how important these measures are. Whether you're a long-term resident or just visiting, these efforts make a huge difference in the community. If you have kids in school, take a moment to thank the local authorities for all the hard work they're doing.
