Isla Mujeres Launches 'Isleño de Corazón' Program to Support Local Tourists
In a move to bolster the local economy and support workers in the tourism sector, the municipal government of Isla Mujeres has launched the 'Isleño de Corazón' program. This initiative aims to provide economic assistance to lancheros and maleteros, who face reduced income during off-peak tourist seasons. Beneficiaries will receive either monetary support or food packages, alongside training in tourism, safety, and customer service.
President Atenea Gómez Ricalde, who spearheaded the program, highlighted its importance in recognizing the vital role of these workers in the island's economic development. The program also includes educational components to enhance the skills of participants, ensuring a better experience for visitors.
