Isla Mujeres Honors Armada Mexico with Special Recognition
Earlier this month, the Armada de México received a well-deserved recognition from the Quintana Roo state government for its significant contributions to the region's development and safety. As a lifelong resident of Isla Mujeres, I can attest to the invaluable role the Armada plays in our community.

The ceremony took place on October 4th at the Quinta Región Naval in Isla Mujeres, marking the 205th anniversary of the creation of the Armada de México and the 202nd anniversary of the promulgation of the Federal Constitution of 1824. The event was attended by Cristina Torres Gómez, who represented the state governor Mara Lezama Espinosa. Torres highlighted the long-standing relationship between the Armada and the people of Quintana Roo, emphasizing the institution's role in various emergency situations.
During her speech, Torres also recognized the efforts of the marines and their families, noting the importance of their service in ensuring the resilience of Quintana Roo during hurricane seasons. She highlighted specific instances, such as the rescue of 12 nautical survivors in Isla Mujeres, which underscore the critical role the Armada plays in our community.
The recognition ceremony reflects the ongoing collaboration between the state government and the military forces to enhance security, peace, and well-being in the region. For those of us who call Isla Mujeres home, it serves as a reminder of the essential work that the Armada does to keep our island safe and thriving.
