The decision to cancel a court summons depends on various factors, including the defendant's or prosecutor's confidence in their case. In some instances, a summons may be canceled at the last minute, but this is not a common occurrence. If you're concerned about driving downtown, you might consider exploring alternative transportation options, such as carpooling or ride-sharing with someone who has also received a summons.

My wife received a cancel notice the day before her court date, but this is not the norm. I've been summoned to court 10+ times over the years and have never had it canceled. However, I did receive a text message the night before one of my court dates informing me that I didn't need to attend. It's reassuring to know that cancellations can happen, but they're not something you can rely on.

In the past, I've received a text message the night before a court date informing me that I didn't need to attend. This experience was reassuring, but it's essential to remember that it's not something you can rely on. If you're concerned about driving downtown, you might consider carpooling or finding a ride share with someone who's also been summoned. For example, I once carpooled with a friend who was also summoned, and we were able to split the cost of parking and gas.

The likelihood of getting canceled is relatively low. With around 15-20 jury selections taking place each week, and each screening up to 60+ potential jurors, it's not common for summons to be canceled. While it's technically unlikely that you'll actually serve on a jury, you'll likely go through the voir dire process. In the worst-case scenario, you'll spend most of the day waiting around.

One of the frustrations of the court process is that you'll often have to spend time waiting around, only to have the case settled out of court. For instance, I once had to wait 30 minutes before being told that the case had been settled. It's a waste of time, but it's just part of the process.

I've experienced this situation four times in a row, and it's incredibly inefficient. It seems that the court system could benefit from a more streamlined process, where cases are settled before the court date. It's not a secret that many cases are settled out of court, so it's puzzling that the court date is still scheduled. This waste of time affects not only the individuals involved but also the court staff and the community at large.
