I've been a Canadian retiree in the Hotel Zone since 2021, enjoying fishing and beach life. I've had a prescription for alprazolam in the past, but after the DEA restrictions, I couldn't get it renewed. I need it now for panic attacks, but I'm worried about getting it seized by customs.

You should be able to find a doctor in some pharmacies in Playa Del Carmen who can provide you with a prescription. Many pharmacies in this area sell medications without a prescription, but make sure to purchase the brand name products rather than generics.

I'm glad you've had a positive experience. However, my concern is the prescription process itself. I've had no issues bringing medications from other countries in the past, but there's a stigma surrounding Mexico, and I'm worried about the potential issues. Given that I'm traveling for medical tourism due to recent insurance issues, I'd be disappointed if I encountered problems.

I returned to the UK with two containers of 100 tramadol tablets without any issues, so you should be fine.

Even if you obtain a prescription in Mexico, it's unlikely that you'll be able to bring the medication back home legally.

I've purchased various medications from Mexican pharmacies without any issues when bringing them back. I've only bought enough for a month or two at a time, and I've never seen my luggage checked. Alprazolam is commonly available on pharmacy shelves, but I've never purchased it.

Even a single instance of your luggage being flagged could lead to serious trouble, so it's essential to be cautious.

I've purchased Diflucan and Retin-a from pharmacies in the past, but I've never attempted to obtain other medications. If the authorities take the medication, they'll likely confiscate it.

I visited a pharmacy on Isla Mujeres last month and was told that I could purchase the medication without a prescription. However, I already had a prescription from my doctor in the US, and I didn't want to risk bringing the medication back due to my anxiety and panic disorder.
