Areas to avoid in Calgary?

I'm visiting Calgary from Italy with my fiancé and we're planning to walk through the city. We were shocked by the open drug use and tent cities in Vancouver and are worried about similar problems in Calgary. Are there any areas or roads we should avoid?

Calgary's climate is quite different from Vancouver's, which may contribute to more people engaging in outdoor activities and substance use. We still have homeless individuals and those struggling with addiction, but they tend to congregate in fewer areas.

Compared to Vancouver, Calgary has a much lower concentration of open drug use and homelessness.

Calgary doesn't have a problem area like Vancouver's East Side. However, open drug use can be seen in the downtown area, especially near the Drop Inn Center.

If you avoid the area around the drop-in centre and nearby train platforms, you might be able to steer clear of the issue. However, it's not uncommon to see it on other platforms as well.

I would advise against visiting the area near the Ecco Street dump.
