Run Club Boosts West Side, Preps 60 Members for Marathon
Arun Club, a local running club in Chicago, is sending 60 members to the upcoming marathon, a significant boost for the West Side community. This initiative is not just about the race, but also about bringing attention to the area, improving community engagement, and fostering a sense of pride among residents.

The club has been active for several years, and their participation in the marathon is part of a larger effort to highlight the vibrancy and strength of the West Side. According to Arun Club’s founder, Jan van der Veer, 'We believe in the resilience and determination of our community, and this marathon helps us showcase that.' The members selected for the marathon are from various neighborhoods, including Brighton Park, Gage Park, and McKinley Park, reflecting the diverse makeup of the West Side.
‘This is more than just a race for us,’ said one participant, Alex Ploeg, a resident of Brighton Park. 'It’s about showing the world that the West Side is a place where people come together to support each other and celebrate our community.’
Moved to Chicago from Netherlands 8 years ago and stayed. Interested in how the town actually works.
