Quintana Roo Prepares for Strong Storms and High Waves
Officials from Quintana Roo have warned that strong storms and significant wave heights of up to four meters are expected in the coming days. The forecast predicts up to 75 millimeters of rain and strong winds of 30 to 50 kilometers per hour in coastal areas. These conditions are attributed to the arrival of a cold front number 2 and the influx of marine humidity from the Caribbean Sea.

Specifically, the northern municipalities of the state are expected to experience heavy rains, with intervals of strong showers and lightning strikes. In Cancún, the city where Playa del Carmen and Tulum are located, there will be a temperature of up to 37 degrees Celsius with possible rainfall. Other regions like Isla Mujeres, Lázaro Cárdenas, and Puerto Morelos are also expected to experience strong storms and heavy showers, while areas such as José María Morelos, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Othon P. Blanco, and Bacalar are also anticipated to have rainfall and thunderstorms.
Quintana Roo's Protection Civil office has advised residents to stay informed about the latest weather updates, to exercise caution in coastal areas, and to consult port captains before engaging in maritime activities. The public is urged to wear lightweight clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen to prevent sunburn.
The warning covers the period from Monday, October 19th to Tuesday, October 20th, and no tropical storms are currently active in the Caribbean Sea. The government is reminding citizens to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during these weather conditions.
Five years ago, I drove my entire life from Mexico City to Cancun in a packed Nissan. The plan was to stay six months. The Caribbean had other plans. Now I run an e-commerce business from a hammock (sometimes literally) and spend too much time arguing about which taqueria is the best.
