Free Tenis Shoes for Students: A Boost for Education in Cancún
Five years ago, I drove my life from Mexico City to Cancún, where I now run an e-commerce business from a hammock. The city's latest move to support students couldn't come at a better time. The Ayuntamiento of Benito Juárez has just handed out over 99,000 pairs of free tenis shoes to students from 427 public schools, part of the 'Pasos por la Transformación' program.

This isn't the first time the initiative has been rolled out, with the first two editions benefiting from previous administrations. For Ana Paty Peralta, the city's president, this is a step towards transforming Cancún, making sure students have the tools they need to succeed. 'In Cancún, we work every day to give steps towards a better future,' she said.
The program aims to ease the financial burden on families, particularly those in Benito Juárez, by reducing costs associated with school supplies. With these shoes, students can focus more on their studies, not their feet. For expats and digital nomads, this is a small but significant gesture from the city government that can make a big difference in the lives of many students.
Five years ago, I drove my entire life from Mexico City to Cancun in a packed Nissan. The plan was to stay six months. The Caribbean had other plans. Now I run an e-commerce business from a hammock (sometimes literally) and spend too much time arguing about which taqueria is the best.
