Cancún Hosts First Mountain Biking Competition: 3.8 Kilometer Circuit and Up to 200 Participants
Parque Cancún is preparing for its first Cross Country Olímpico (XCO) competition, set to take place on October 10 and 11. The event features a 3.8 kilometer circuit with up to 200 participants, organized by Martin Lombardi, a MTBike coach. The circuit includes challenging terrain such as hills, descents, and technical corners, with an accumulated altitude of approximately 310 meters. The organizers aim to enhance mountain biking in Cancún by providing safe and engaging conditions for both competitors and spectators.

Lombardi, the event organizer, explains that the original circuit was shorter, but two kilometers of new terrain were added to expand the course. He also mentions that the event will have 14 categories for both men and women, including beginner, elite, and master categories. Participants will cover a distance of 3.8 kilometers, and the cost for the entry is 450 pesos, which covers hydration, safety, markings, timing, and medical assistance.
The competition will kick off with a kit distribution on Saturday, October 10, followed by an infant race for children aged 5 to 12. On Sunday, October 11, the XCO competition will take place, where participants from various categories will compete, from beginners to elites. The organizers hope that this event will not only boost the popularity of mountain biking in Cancún but also provide a platform for local cyclists to showcase their skills and compete against other participants from different regions of the Yucatan Peninsula.
