Strong Winds Threaten Fall Leaf Viewing in Calgary
It looks like Calgary’s fall leaf enthusiasts might have to hit the trail early this year. With gusts of up to 90 km/h expected in parts of Alberta, including Calgary’s neighboring areas, the winds are set to make leaves dance and scatter before their time. Environmental officials are warning of high winds that could disrupt plans to enjoy the fall foliage.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), strong winds with gusts to 90 km/h are predicted in areas such as Edmonton, Lloydminster, Sherwood Park, and Fort Saskatchewan. These winds will peak around noon in Slave Lake and Swan Hills, then push southeast towards Lloydminster by early evening. Calgary, while not facing such extreme winds, will still experience breezy conditions, with winds from the west at 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h.
High-sided vehicles will be particularly affected, so securing loose objects and adapting driving habits are recommended. This might mean some delays or disruptions to your daily commute. Keep an eye on your local weather updates and be prepared for any changes that might come your way.
