Max Green Upgrades Roll Out, but More Focus Needed on North Central BRT
It's a welcome move to see the improvements to the Max Green bus service in north Calgary, but one councillor thinks there's more to do, especially in the north central area. The project, which has been in the works for six years, aims to improve bus flow and reduce traffic time, with new bus-only lanes and upgrades to the break space at the North Pointe Transit Terminal.

Starting this fall, the improvements will be visible in the 78 Avenue NE bus loop, with more changes to come in 2027. While the work is moving forward, Ward 3 Councillor Andrew Yule believes there's a need for greater focus on the north central BRT, stating that the current work is just the beginning of a 10-year plan.
Yule's amendment to expedite the Max Green improvements will be presented at the upcoming Nov. 3 Executive Committee meeting. This comes after the approval of the Green Line plan, which will end the surface-level LRT just before 2 Street SW, without a specific plan to head north into the northern part of the city. The challenge remains to create a terminal in the downtown area to connect the northern and southern halves of the city.
