CUFF.Docs Returns: Calgary’s Documentary Film Festival Celebrates Its 14th Edition
Huge changes are coming to Calgary this fall as the Calgary Underground Film Festival (CUFF) returns with its 14th edition, focusing this year on documentary films. The festival, known for pushing the boundaries of storytelling, will showcase 15 feature films, 17 shorts, and the ever-popular CATVIDEOFEST, taking place from November 18 to 22 at the Globe Cinema.

Brennan Tilley, the Lead Programmer, highlights the festival's commitment to showcasing documentaries that challenge the genre's norms. 'Through Matthew Rankin’s irreverent lens, a turning point in Canadian political history becomes a hallucinatory vision of how we got to where we are today,' Tilley notes, referring to the opening night film, Ladies and Gentlemen, Brian Mulroney.
Documentary enthusiasts won't be disappointed, as the festival will feature Canadian content, including Captain Newfoundland and More Miles Than Money: The Story Of Jr. Gone Wild. There will also be a world premiere of Starry Night, a play about artistic and personal triumphs, and Turtle Island Rap, celebrating Indigenous youth culture. For the cat lovers among us, CATVIDEOFEST will return for its fourth year, screening 75 minutes of newly curated cat videos, with 10% of ticket sales going to the Meow Foundation.
Whether you're into politics, sports, or just need a break with some cat videos, CUFF.Docs has something for everyone. With tickets priced at various levels, there's no reason to miss out on this unique event. Mark your calendars and get ready for a week of fascinating documentaries and engaging discussions.
