Calgary's First Fire Hall and Library Combination Facility Takes Shape
Groundbreaking has been achieved for Calgary’s first-ever combination fire hall and library, a $34. 2 million project at 969 Walden Drive SE. This new facility replaces a temporary fire station and will open in 2028, offering 15,000 square feet of space, including a public library adjacent to the fire station.

The new facility is set to strengthen emergency response in Calgary’s Ward 14 and will be the first public library in the area. Mayor Farkas praised the partnership between the Calgary Fire Department and the Calgary Public Library, highlighting the facility as a hub where safety, learning, and community come together. CEO Sarah Meilleur of the Calgary Public Library expressed excitement about the new space, describing it as a ‘beautiful’ location with plenty of room for residents to connect, learn, and create their own stories.
This major infrastructure project reflects Calgary’s growing population and commitment to providing essential services to its residents.
