Resources for a homeless 16-year-old foreigner in Bangkok?

I've noticed a homeless foreigner on the streets of Pattaya who's asked me to buy them food. They say they can't go home due to abuse and look quite young. I'm worried it's not safe for anyone around that age to be out, especially in this city. They're from South Africa and declined my offer of money, only wanting food. If they're deported back, their situation will be even more dangerous, as they have no family there.

If you're trying to help someone in a similar situation, be cautious of scams. In Thailand, people often assume that beggars are being controlled by organized crime groups. If you're concerned about the person's safety, contacting their embassy might be the best course of action. However, this could potentially make their situation worse if they're being exploited.

She's from South Africa and mentioned that if she's deported back home, her situation could become even more precarious due to the current situation in her country and the fact that she has no family there. I suggested buying her a ticket to Bangkok to visit her embassy, but she's hesitant about that option.

It sounds like this person is facing a tough situation both in Thailand and back home. You might want to ask her if she has any trusted friends or acquaintances she could stay with temporarily, as that would be safer than being on the streets. If she has evidence of the abuse, she could consider reporting it to the authorities, but that process can be daunting, especially for a foreigner.

I'm not sure how much the Bangkok Community Help Center can do, but they've helped many homeless foreigners in the past by organizing transportation to their home countries. They might be able to provide other helpful resources or solutions, taking into account the safety concerns.

One possible first step could be to get her to a temple, where she can have a safe place to stay and access to food on a daily basis.

Some potential resources include the Childline Thailand helpline, which provides 24/7 support and counseling for anyone under 18 in Thailand. You can also reach out to the MSDHS Social Assistance Center, which has an office in Chonburi and offers emergency reporting services. Additionally, there are other organizations, such as The Exodus Road, that might be able to provide assistance.
