Atlanta: Is kratom really to blame for the Ole Miss student's death?

I saw the news story about the Ole Miss student who died after buying Kratom from a gas station in Atlanta. I'm not sure if it was really Kratom that killed him, as there are so many smoke shops selling it here. I knew Kratom was addictive, but I've never heard of an overdose before.

You should watch John Oliver's segment on those kinds of drugs and how they're not regulated. He explains the risks and lack of oversight.

Just to clarify, this incident isn't related to kratom purchased in Atlanta. One of the deceased is from Atlanta, but the kratom wasn't bought here. It's still a terrible incident, and I think people should be aware of the risks, but we should stick to the facts.

It wasn't actually kratom that killed the student. It was another illegal synthetic substance.

The specific substance was Smax psuedo-DHM. I found this information on Google.
