Job prospects in CDMX for a non-Spanish-speaking finance/strategy professional?

法律与财务 2 天前 7 answers • Galina

I'm considering a move to Mexico City for my partner and would really value some honest input on the job market before I commit. I'm 32, Italian passport, fluent English, 9 years professional experience in finance and strategy, and currently a Senior Manager on a sports infrastructure programme in Saudi Arabia. I'd like to stay in the sports industry if possible, but I'm open to other options.

Working in finance in Mexico City requires a residency and fluency in Spanish. Salaries are lower compared to other countries, and the cost of living in the city is high. Consider taking Spanish classes to improve your chances.

I'm eager to start working as soon as possible. Are there any companies in Mexico City that primarily use English as their working language?

Sports-related positions can be challenging to find, especially if you don't have connections within the industry. Networking and building relationships may help you get your foot in the door.

That's what I expected to hear. I'm exploring my options within the industry, but I'm also open to considering a career change.

The Big 4 seems like a promising option, but if you're interested in football, you might want to explore associations that work in the field. Your partner's Mexican citizenship could make things easier, but it's still a challenging job market. Salaries in Mexico are lower than in Europe, and Mexico City is an expensive city. You might want to search for professionals in your field on LinkedIn and reach out to them for advice or job opportunities.

Thank you for your response. My partner is Mexican, but marriage is not a viable option for us at this time.

A work permit might be included with a temporary resident visa, but it's not always automatic. Typically, you'd need to have a job offer to qualify for a work permit.
