Kaiser vs Blue Cross PPO: what to expect?

Kaiser vs Blue Cross PPO: what to expect?

Здоровье и Wellness 6 answers • Katrin B
I live in the LA County, close to Harbor City, and I'm used to going to Kaiser for all my medical needs. I'm switching to a new company that only offers Anthem Blue Cross PPO, and I'm not sure what to expect. I'm worried about finding doctors and getting lab and pharmacy services in the same building, like I do at Kaiser. I also have weekly mental health appointments, which were covered by Kaiser without any extra cost. Can anyone tell me about their experience with Blue Cross PPO, especially with Cedar Sinai or Harbor UCLA?

UCLA is a great option, but I've only had experience with them, not with Cedars. I've heard mixed reviews about Cedars.

I hate Kaiser and their managed care model. If I have the option, I want the best care possible, not something that's 90% as good.

I've heard that Kaiser can feel like they're cutting corners.

I love Kaiser and have been a member for 40 years. They used to be bad, but now they're like concierge medicine for me. I've had multiple surgeries and conditions, and I've been happy with their care. My husband has also had great experiences with Kaiser, including getting outside opinions from doctors at Mayo and UCLA without extra charge.

Switching to PPO will require more legwork on your part, and the 20% copay is after you hit your deductible. Mental health coverage can be tricky, but many therapists offer sliding scale fees if insurance doesn't cover fully.

Most insurance is better than Kaiser, but no insurance is as easy to use as Kaiser. I've tried other medical providers, but they're not as convenient.
