I'll be visiting Puerto Vallarta for 7 days and I'm a foodie looking to try authentic Mexican food. I'm staying in Zona Romántica and I'd like to know about the best tequila selection, coffee shops, galleries, and safety tips.

For a good liquor store with a diverse tequila selection, head to Vinos America on Basillo Badillo 284. Be cautious of tequila tastings along the malecon, as they tend to promote low-quality tequilas.

I highly recommend visiting Vinos America for a unique tequila experience. They offer a Gonzalez Reposado Cristalino for $850 per bottle, which is an exceptional value. The store also carries a blanco and reposado tequila at slightly lower price points. If you're interested in exploring more tequila options, consider visiting The Tasting Room on Calle Panama, just a few blocks north of the malecon and a half block towards the beach. They offer customized tasting flights.

When heading to the Zona Romantica, avoid crossing the bridge to hail an Uber. Instead, walk south along the pleasant sidewalk towards the Avis car rental and call for a ride. Uber fares typically range from 200 to 250 pesos. To experience the local culture, wander and discover hidden gems, including authentic food and beautiful sights. If you're physically fit, consider hiking to the cross at sunrise or to Las Animas from Boca de Tomatlen, both of which offer breathtaking views, albeit with some challenge.

Joe Jacks has an impressive tequila selection. I had the opportunity to meet Guillermo Sauza, the owner of Fortaleza, during my visit, and he was a very friendly and approachable person. You never know who you might meet in Puerto Vallarta if you keep your eyes open and engage with the local community.

If you're a coffee connoisseur, I'd recommend visiting Oro Verde, a small roastery that also serves brewed coffee. While it may not be on the same level as high-end US coffee shops, it's always nice to drink coffee from a place that's roasting it themselves. When it comes to authentic food, I've found that walking inland from the beach tends to yield more authentic and affordable options, with prices dropping as you move further away from the beach. Our beachfront meals were relatively expensive and just okay, although La Palapa's US drink prices were a bit of a letdown.
