Tulum’s Independence Parade Grows, Now Featuring 25 Contingents
The annual Independence Day parade in Tulum has seen a significant expansion this year, with 25 contingents marching through the streets, up from 15 last year. The parade, which attracted 3,200 marchers from 18 schools and institutions, has become a large celebration of local culture and community.
Notably, the parade now falls on the same day as the Grito ceremony, a change from last year's schedule. This year's event saw choreographed routines and students dressed in green, white, and red uniforms, keeping the tradition alive and building civic culture for the town.
Since I grew up in Tulum and have seen the town change over the years, it’s particularly heartening to see how these traditions continue to thrive. Even as we embrace our digital nomadic lifestyles, it’s important to remember the roots and cultural celebrations that bind us together. As a fisherman, I take pride in seeing our community come together to honor our heritage.
