Tulum’s Business Council Joins Beach Cleanups: A New Recycling Initiative
After years of dedicated community efforts, Tulum's business council has officially joined forces with environmental groups to spearhead beach cleanups. As an Italian expat running a small dive shop in Tulum for the past three years, I’ve seen firsthand the impact of these cleanups and the increasing awareness of sustainable practices.
Patricia de la Torre Ortiz, the founding president of the Consejo Coordinador Empresarial de Tulum, recently announced that the business council is partnering with organizations like Fundación Tuseres, Guardianes de la Naturaleza, and Parley. Together, they aim to sort and recycle plastic, glass, and metal collected from the beaches. The collected waste will be processed into fuel using Petgas' non-catalytic pyrolysis technology, which converts plastic into gasoline, diesel, kerosene, paraffin, and gas.
- The council's involvement brings a new level of organization and resources to the beach cleanup efforts.
- The alliance plans to separate and process the collected materials for fuel, turning trash into treasure.
- No specific cleanup dates or funding sources have been published yet.
