The Wall Comes Down

After two years, the debate over the wall has finally moved from announcement to action. This week, the federal tourism ministry is set to demolish the perimeter wall, which has been a contentious issue since the park opened in 2024. The removal of the wall is part of Tulum Renace, a broader plan to revitalize the town. While the government promises a more open connection to the archaeological site and beaches, the practical details, like drawings and budgets, remain unclear.

Eight New Air Routes

Eight international air routes are set to return to Tulum's airport for the winter season, starting in October. This is a significant boost for the town, as hotel occupancy dropped 6.98 percent between January and May 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. The routes will connect Tulum directly to New York, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec, and Calgary. While the municipal tourism office initially announced eight routes, the state government claims 13 destinations, including Dallas, Miami, Atlanta, and Houston, adding to the confusion.
